A quill pen is a writing utensil, made from a primary wing-feather of a large bird. This is a photograph of a quill, paper, and ink pot. In Shakespeare's time, they didn't have pencils, pens, and markers, all they had were bird feathers that had their ends dipped into the ink, and used to write calligraphy.
Elizabeth I was ruling England from 1558 until her death in 1603. Queen Elizabeth I was sometimes called "The Virgin Queen", "Gloriana" and "Good Queen Bess". Elizabeth was also the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty.
Shakespeare was born in the very house above. Stratford is William Shakespeare's home town. This house remains on Henley street and is maintained by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Stratford was a thriving rural town, home to about 1,500 people.
On February 15th 1564 (1 day before my birthday) Galileo Galilei was born! Galileo was the very first person to discover that the Earth wasn't the center of the solar system, Jupiter has four moons, Venus has a face like a moon, and he also discovered the rings of Saturn.
In the photograph above, it shows the Holy Trinity Church or also known as 'Shakespeare's Church' which is located in Stratford upon Avon in England. This is known to be the place where young William Shakespeare was baptised in 1564 and buried in 1616. More than 200,000 tourists visit this site every year.
This slab of rock was Shakespeare's tombstone when he was buried on April 23rd, 1616. The tombstone wrote (in modern English; spelling):
Good friend, for Jesus' sake forbear
to dig the dust enclosed here:
Blessed be the man that spares these stones,
and cursed be he that moves my bones.
